Neurofeedback & DBT
Neurofeedback & DBT Program
Is your teen struggling with:
- Intense, difficult-to-manage emotions?
- Impulsive or self-harming behaviors?
- Relationship challenges with family or peers?
What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment that teaches practical skills to manage emotions, improve relationships, and build a life worth living. DBT has been shown to be highly effective for adolescents dealing with various mental health concerns.
Neurofeedback, a form of biofeedback that trains self-regulation of brain activity, can enhance the skills-based approach of DBT by teaching the brain to function more optimally. Neurofeedback can improve an individual’s ability to recognize, modulate, and adaptively respond to intense emotions—a core focus of DBT. It has been shown to boost focus, cognitive flexibility, and decision-making capabilities. These improved functions complement the mindfulness and interpersonal skills cultivated through DBT.

Early Adolescent DBT and Neurofeedback (Ages 12-14):
Program Options
Emotion Regulation: Learn to identify, understand, and manage intense feelings like anxiety, anger, and sadness in healthy ways. Neurofeedback can help improve the brain's ability to stabilize emotions.
Impulse Control: Develop skills to pause before reacting, reduce impulsive behaviors, and make thoughtful decisions. Neurofeedback training can strengthen self-control and executive functioning.
Stress Management: Build coping strategies to handle life's challenges, whether it's academic pressure, family conflicts, or social struggles. Neurofeedback can teach the brain to better regulate the stress response.
Healthy Relationships: Improve communication, conflict resolution, and the ability to build and maintain supportive friendships. DBT's interpersonal effectiveness skills paired with neurofeedback's interpersonal benefits can be transformative.
Mindfulness: Learn to be present, non-judgmental, and accept emotions as they arise. Neurofeedback can reinforce the brain patterns associated with focused attention and self-awareness.
Late Adolescent DBT and Neurofeedback (Ages 15-18):
- Emotion Regulation: Gain a deeper understanding of your emotional experiences and develop advanced techniques to modulate intense feelings constructively.
- Crisis Management: Build robust distress tolerance skills to get through difficult moments without resorting to harmful behaviors like self-injury or substance abuse. Neurofeedback can help the brain stay regulated during crises.
- Identity Development: Explore and solidify a sense of self, values, and life direction with the help of DBT’s skill-building and neurofeedback’s ability to enhance self-reflection.
- Stress Resilience: Navigate the increasing academic, social, and personal demands of later adolescence with greater emotional balance and problem-solving capabilities.
- Autonomy & Independence: Prepare for the transition to adulthood by strengthening communication, decision-making, and self-advocacy skills—all while optimizing brain function through neurofeedback.
